This work is among the artist’s earliest explorations of belonging and displacement. It reflects on racism, migration, trauma, and the search for belonging. The piece portrays a child rendered through layered colors and heavily textured surfaces, carrying a Black textile doll as if in the midst of departure. The tactile quality of the work evokes traces left upon the skin: marks of memory, migration, exclusion, and emotional inheritance. The work transforms texture into metaphor, revealing vulnerability, resilience, and the enduring search for a space of being.
